INTERVIEW IN ENGLISH BELOW THE FRENCH ONE !

Dew-Scented a sorti son nouvel album "Incinerate", une pure turerie. Nouveau clip réalisé par Patrick Ullaeus (In Flames, Children Of Bodom, etc...), ça marche bien pour eux, surtout qu'on viendra les supporter au Hellfest !
Petit retour sur l'année passée mais surtout sur le nouvel album avec Leif, the lead vocals...!

MF : Hello Leif !

Leif : Hello Lynn, ravi de te rencontrer !


MF : Hey moi aussi ! Comment vas-tu ?

Leif : Bien ! Une longue journée, mais belle journée !


MF: J’étais juste en train d’écouter votre dernier album…

Leif : Ooooh toutes mes excuses !


MF : (rires) ... et je l’aime beaucoup !

Leif : Nous l’aimons aussi ! (rires)


MF : Il vaudrait mieux ! Donc tu es satisfait ?

Leif : Oui beaucoup. Nous avons atteint ce que nous voulions atteindre : un plus gros son, plus direct, plus agressif, et accrocheur. Donc on est content. Les retours sont bons et les gens disent qu’ils sentent une évolution du groupe.


MF : Peux-tu dire qu’il y a de nouveaux éléments dans cet album ?

Leif : Euh, non. Pas vraiment de nouveaux éléments, car nous avons déjà nos préférences. Je pense que nous avons juste combiné tous les éléments, mais de manière différente… peut-être mieux qu’avant. Mais nous n’avons pas de nouvelles influences. On a juste expérimenté un nouveau travail sur cet album et au final ça sonne un peu plus heavy, mais c’est tout. Nous sommes vraiment simples en ce qui concerne cela. C’est venu naturellement. On a pas essayé de suivre un mouvement ou un style, ce n’est pas vraiment intéressant pour nous. On s’intéresse à plein de styles différents dans la musique, allant de la pop au grindcore, mais concernant Dew-Scented, on est plus dans le thrash agressif, un peu dans le death et le hardcore. De toute façon je pense que c’est trop tard pour nous de changer de manière non naturelle.

MF : Es-tu d’accord si je dis que Dew-Scented sonne un peu hardcore ?

Leif : Oui, nous avons toujours eu des influences hardcore. Nous sommes de grands fans de Slayer, Testament, mais nous sommes aussi de gros fans de Morbid Angel, Discharge… sorte de hardcore agressif. Je pense que nous avons des éléments provenants du hardcore, mais nous ne sommes pas pour autant un groupe de metalcore. Je pense que les refrains, les parties accrocheuses dans les lignes de chant, sont aussi utilisés dans les groupes de metalcore. Mais c’est sûrement parce qu’ils ont aussi écouté les mêmes groupes que nous.


MF : J’ai vraiment adoré les riffs, tu sais quand ça vient de droite à gauche, comme du ping-pong !

Leif : Haha ! Ouais c’est marrant à jouer en live. Les deux guitaristes forment une super bonne équipe.


MF : Peux-tu dire un mot sur la pochette et le nom de l’album ?

Leif : Euh oui, la pochette est grise et le nom est "Incinerate".


MF : Ah ouais ? Euuuuuuh (Lynn n’a pas compris la blague :) )


Leif : Haha ! C’est suffisant non ? Ahem…plus sérieusement… La pochette a été créée par la même personne qui avait réalisé la pochette de « Issue VI » et « Impact ». Il connait très bien le groupe, il sait ce que l’on veut, et ce qui est bon pour nous, visuellement parlant. Le cœur qui devient poussières…J’ai trouvé ça sympa et ça va bien avec le nom « Incinerate ». Nous n’aimons pas les monstres, ou les mecs assis sur une grosse moto. Je ne verrais pas un de nos albums avec un dragon sur la pochette, ça ne veut rien dire pour nous. C’est mieux pour les groupes de heavy metal par exemple.


MF : Oui, je trouve que la pochette est vraiment appropriée au groupe.

Leif : Ouais, “appropriée", j’aime ce mot ! (rires)
On voulait que l’album ait un look simple mais en même temps beau, qui attire l’œil dans les bacs. Et en même temps nous voulions un beau design pour nos posters et t-shirts.


MF : Depuis quand travaillez vous avec le label Nuclear Blast ?

Leif : Nous travaillons avec eux depuis 2002. Ca fait maintenant une paire d’années et d’albums. Notre dernier album est en fait la première sortie depuis notre nouveau contrat avec Nuclear Blast. Concernant la musique, nous ne sommes pas influencés par le label, et c’est ce que j’aime car ils nous connaissent, nous comprennent et n’essayent pas trop d’interférer dans notre travail.


MF : Peux- tu faire le point sur l’année passée (2006) ?

Leif : Oui, nous avons dû surmonter une petite épreuve quand notre guitariste est parti avant l’enregistrement de Issue VI, mais il est revenu après la tournée. Et nous avons retrouvé l’énergie pour repartir dans la même direction. Ca a d’ailleurs permis à l’album de devenir ce qu’il est devenu. Mais nous étions vraiment occupés ces dernières années, donc il n’y a pas vraiment eu de temps pour les problèmes. On a fait plusieurs tournées, festivals (tournée en Amérique du Nord, au Japon,…). On a beaucoup travaillé et ça nous a donné l’inspiration pour notre nouvel album. Nous avions aussi des dates de programmées en France, mais elles ont été annulées. C’était vraiment dommage. J’aimerais vraiment jouer plus souvent en France !



MF : Donc tu aimes venir ici en France …

Leif : Oui beaucoup, on a un super public en France, un grand soutient. La première date qu’on a fait en France était en 2002, pendant la tournée avec No Return, et ça nous a aidé à trouver de nouveaux fans, amis, et d’avancer pas à pas. Mais nous jouerons à Paris en avril 2007 à Paris, pour le No Mercy Festival, avec Napalm Death, Behemoth, Moonspell. Et on reviendra pour plus de concerts, on va d’ailleurs jouer au Hellfest en juin !


MF : Wow, Hellfest, bon programme !

Leif : Ouais, ça va être cool ! On avait déjà joué au Fury Fest quelques années auparavant et c’était génial pour nous. En plus cette année l’affiche est énorme. On se voit là-bas !


MF : J’y compte bien ! Un dernier mot pour les fans ?

Leif : Seulement un mot ?


MF : Euh et bien deux si tu veux !

Now let's talk with Leif, Dew-Scented singer, about their last album "Incinerate". Big work and many concerts to come....



MF : Hello Leif !

Leif : Hello Lynn, nice to meet you !


MF : Hey me too ! How are you ?

Leif : Fine ! Long day but a good day !


MF : I was just listening to you last album ...

Leif : Ooooh sorry !


MF : (laughs) ... and I really like it !

Leif : We like it also ! (laughs)


MF : I hope so ! So you are satisfied with this album.

Leif : Yes a lot. We achieved what we wanted to achieve : a bigger sound, more direct, agressive, and catchy. So we are happy. The feedbacks are good and people says they feel an evolution in the band.


MF : Can you say that there are new elements on this album ?

Leif : Well, no. No really new elements because we've found our preferences. I think that we just combined all the elements in a different way ... maybe in a better way than before. But we don't have new influences. We just experienced a new work on this album and it sounds a little bit more heavy but that's all. We are very simple with that. It came naturally. We don't try to follow anything, it's not very interesting for the band. We care about everything that is good in music between pop and grindcore, but I think when it comes to Dew-Scented, it's all about agressive thrash, little bit of death metal and hardcore. Anyway I think it's too late for us to try to change in a not natural way.


MF : Do you agree when people says that you've got Hardcore influences ?

Leif : Yeah, we always had. We are great fans of Slayer, Testament, but we are also big fans of Morbid Angel, Discharge,... kind of agressive hardcore. I think we have elements of Hardcore but we are not a metalcore band. I think the catchy parts in the vocals, are also used in metalcore bands. But that's maybe because there were listening to the same kind of bands, influences.


MF : I really liked the riffs, you know when it comes from left to right, like ping-pong !

Leif : Haha ! Yeah it's really fun to play on stage. The two guitar-players are a really good team !


MF : Can you say something about the cover and the name ?

Leif : Well the cover is grey and the name is "Incinerate".


MF : Yeah ? Well huuuuuh.... (Lynn didn't understand the joke).

Leif : Haha ! It's enough, no ?
Well, seriously... The cover has been made by the same guy who made the cover for Issue VI and Impact. He knows the band very well, he knows what we want, and what's good for us, visually. The heart that comes to ashes... I found it very nice and it goes well with the name "Incinerate". We don't like monsters, or a guy sitting on a motorcycle. I wouldn't see one of our album with a dragon on the cover, that means nothing for us. That's better for heavy metal bands for example.


MF : Yes I think that the cover is really appropriated to the band.

Leif : Yeah, "appropriated", I like this word (laughs).
We wanted the album to look simple and good in the stores. We wanted a good design for posters, t-shirts...


MF : Since when have you been working with the label Nuclear Blast?

Leif : We have been working with them since 2002. It's been a couple of years, a couple of albums. This is actually the first album of the new contract we did with them. We feel that they understand our music and they have been giving us a really good support, so we are very happy with the label. Concerning the music, we are not influenced by the label and that's what I also like because they know us, understand us and don't try to interfere too much.


MF : Can you make a small point about the last year (2006) ?

Leif : Yes we had a little struggle because our guitar-player left before the recording of Issues VI and then he came back after the end of the tour... And we found the energy to work in the same direction and all that helped the album to become what it became. But we were so busy those lasts years, there were not really time for problems. We did lots of tours, festivals (north-american, japan tour...). We worked a lot and it helped us to get the inspiration for the new album.
We also had dates in France that were cancelled. It was a shame. I wish I could play more in France !


MF : So you like coming in France...

Leif : Yes, a lot. We have a nice support in France. The first date we did in France was in 2002 with No Return, and it helped us a lot to find new friends, and to go from step to step. But we will play in April 2007 in Paris at the No Mercy Festival with Napalm Death, Behemoth, Moonspell. And we will come for more shows, we will play at the Hellfest.


MF : Wow Hellfest, sounds nice ! (French Fest with Megadeth, Slayer, Dark Tranquillity, Machine Head, Dream Theater, Children Of Bodom,...)

Leif : Yes it will be great ! We already played at the Fury Fest and it was really good for us. This year, there are amazing bands.


MF : A last word for the fans ?

Leif : Only one word ?


MF : Well... Two if you want !
