Kylähullut est un groupe de punk-rock, qui a vu le jour lors d’une soirée bien arrosée avec Alexi Laiho et le chanteur de Klamydia. Des résonances à la bodom, de l’alcool à flot, ces finlandais n’auront jamais fini de retourner nos oreilles. Je donne la parole à Vesku, chanteur du groupe, pour nous parler de ce projet.

MF : Pour commencer, nous allons présenter les 3 membres de Kylähullut : Alexi Laiho, Tonmi Lillman, et toi-même, Vesku Jokinen. Quelques mots ? Peut-être est-ce l’occasion de te présenter aux public qui ne vous connaît pas encore !

Vesku : Je suis un punk-rocker de 36 ans, et je viens de Vaasa, en Finlande. Mon vrai nom est Vesa Jokinen. Je viens du groupe Klamydia, avec lequel je bosse depuis 20 ans. C’est du pur punk mélodique. Nous chantons aussi en finnois, car mon anglais est super mauvais, et les autres membres ne peuvent pas jouer en anglais :) Je suis un chanteur, ou plutôt devrais-je dire, le faiseur de bruit de Kylähullut.


MF : Peux-tu nous dire comment Kylähullut est né ? D’où est venue l’idée de la création du groupe ?

Vesku : Moi et Alexi, nous nous connaissons depuis très longtemps. L’idée du projet de Kylähullut est venue lorsque j’ai demandé à Children of Bodom de faire une reprise de Klamydia, pour la compilation de nos 15 ans. Les gars sont venus et ont brillamment joué cette reprise de notre chanson « Latomeri ». Après ça, nous sommes allés dans un bar avec Alexi et on était complètement bourrés. On a décidé de faire quelquechose de plus ensemble. Et c’est durant cette nuit que Kylähullut est né.


MF : Vous êtes 3 finlandais qui ont un passé et des influences diverses.

Vesku : Ouais, c’est un puissant mixe de punk, de heavy et de trucs barrés, avec des paroles grossières.


MF : On reconnait bien le jeu d’Alexi Laiho, qui nous rappelle Children Of Bodom. Penses-tu que Kylähullut permettra aux metalleux d’aimer le punk ?

Vesku : Bien sûr, mais je pense que chacun à ses propres goûts. On fait ce qu’on aime, et ça nous plait. Si vous n’aimez pas, c’est de votre faute !


MF : Alexi Laiho est un grand fan de metal et un grand guitariste, mais quelles sont les influences punk des autres membres du groupe ?

Vesku : Je ne cherche pas à trouver un virtuose de la guitare ou quoi que ce soit du style. Pour moi, c’est le groupe dans son unité qui est l’important. Ressentir la musique, les bonnes mélodies et l’attitude, c’est tout ce qui compte. C’est pourquoi j’aime The Ramones, Ramones, Motörhead, Misfits etc… Mais je peux dire que celui qui m’a le plus influencé est Joey Ramone.


MF : Toutes les paroles sont en finnois. Peux-tu nous dire alors de quoi vous parlez ?

Vesku : On parle de menteurs, de gens ennuyeux et stupides (On est tellement intelligent !!!! Hahaha), critiques, d’alcool (quelle surprise !!), de religion, et de tout ce que l’on déteste…. Mais on le fait de manière marrante. Kylähullut montre son doigt d’honneur à presque tout le monde. Hier j’ai fait une chanson sur Paris Hilton. Crois moi, ça va être la meilleure chanson d’amour de toute l’histoire !


MF : Quand on écoute Kylähullut, on a l’impression que vous vous êtes bien marrés ! Ca met de bonne humeur. Ca change des autres groupes de metal finlandais qui sont assez dépressifs !

Vesku : Nous sommes finlandais, nous avons notre propre humour. On appelle ça l’humour noir. Mais ça, c’est une autre histoire. Dans Kylähullut, on se marre bien et on boit bien aussi. On est trois amis, on aime être ensemble, donc je pense que ça doit se ressentir dans notre musique.


MF : Une anecdote à raconter ?

Vesku : Censuré ! peep-peep-peep, j’ai perdu la connection. Qu’as-tu dit ? 


MF : Pour un enregistrement de Kylähullut, préféreriez-vous enregistrer dans un studio classique, ou bien plutôt du type old school avec un dictaphone au milieu d’une pièce ?

Vesku : Je ne comprends rien du tout aux enregistrements, donc je m’enfous si ça sonne pro ou pas. Tout me va, du moment que ça sonne bien.


MF : Où est-ce que 3 punk-rockers finlandais passent leur samedi soir et leur dimanche matin ?

Vesku : Je ne m’en souviens pas. Quelquepart entre la terre et le ciel !


MF : J’imagine que vous êtes chacun très occupé avec vos autres groupes. Mais penses-tu que nous aurons l’occasion de vous voir en concert ? Ca doit être bien déjanté en live, on veut vous voir !

Vesku : Peut-être un jour, mais je ne peux rien promettre. Oui, nous sommes très occupés, mais nous aimons jouer dans Kylähullut, donc rien n’est impossible.


MF : Pour finir, un mot pour les lecteurs français ?

Vesku : Haistakaa etanansyöjät vittu!

Vesku : Je te souhaite le meilleur également ! Le bonjour de la Finlande ! Dehors il fait -25 degrés. C’est un beau temps ! Demain j’irai me baigner dans la mer. Il y un a un trou dans la glace et je m’y plonge après être sorti du sauna. Crois moi, c’est genial !

Kylähullut is a punk-rock band, made by 3 famous finnish men : Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom, Sinergy), Vesku Jokinen (Klamydia) and Tonmi Lillman (To/Die/For, Sinergy).
Interview with Vesku, singer of Kylähullut.


MF : To begin, we have to introduce the 3 members of Kylähullut. Alexi Laiho, Tonmi Lillman, and you, Vesku Jokinen. Some words about them and you ? Maybe it's the occasion for you Vesku, to introduce yourself a bit to the readers who don't know you yet ?

Vesku : I am 36 old punk-rocker from Vaasa, finland. My real name is Vesa Jokinen. My own band is called Klamydia, we have been around about 20 years. It is pure melodic punk rock. We sing also in finnish, because my english is fuckin bad, and also the players cant play in english.:) I am singer or should i say noise-maker of Kylähullut.


MF : Can you tell us how Kylähullut is born ? How came the idea to create it ?

Vesku : Me and Alexi, we have known each other for a long time. Idea of this Kylähullut project came, when i asked COB to play one cover song to Klamydias 15 year anniversary compilation. Guys came and made a brilliant cover of our song called "Latomeri". After that we went to a bar with Alexi and got fuckin drunk. We decided to do something more together. And during that night KYLÄHULLUT was born.


MF : You are 3 Finnish men who have different pasts and influences. What does it bring to your music ?

Vesku : Yeah, its a very powerfull mix of punk, heavy, crazyness and very rough lyrics.


MF : We recognize very well the sound of Alexi Laiho which reminds us of Children Of Bodom. Do you think Kylähullut can be a way for pure metalheads to love punk ?

Vesku : Of course, but i think that its everybodys own taste. We do what we do, and we love it. If you dont like it, its your own fault!


MF : Obviously Alexi Laiho is a big metal and guitar virtuoso fan (but not only), but what are the rest of the band's punk roots?

Vesku : I am not looking after any kind of virtuosos or something like that. For me its always the whole band which is important. Feeling of the music, good melodies and attitude means everything for me. Thats why i love The Ramones, Motörhead, Misfits and so on....But i can say who has influenced for me most is one and only Joey Ramone.


MF : All the lyrics are in finnish. So, can you tell me what you are talking about in your songs ?

Vesku : Liars, annoying and stupid people (we are so clever, hahaaa!:)), nerds, critics, drinking (surprise!:)), religion and everything we hate...but in somekind of funny way.Kylähullut shows middle-finger nearly to everybody. Yesterday i made a song about Paris Hilton. Believe me, its the greatest love song of man-kind history!


MF : When we are listening to Kylähullut, we have the impression that you had lots of fun. There is a good mood in it. It gives a change in comparison to the other finnish metal band which are mostly dark and depressive. What can you say about it ?

Vesku : We finnish people, we have definetily our own-kind of humour. We call it black humour.But thats another story. In Kylähullut we have a lots of fun, lots of laughs and lots of drinking. We are three friends and we enjoy each others company, so i guess that sounds in our music.


MF : Can you tell us something funny that happened to Kylähullut during the recording ?

Vesku : Censored. peep-peep-peep, i lost the connection. What you were saying? :)


MF : When recording a Kylähullut record would you go into a classy old studio, or really go for the old school punk rock feel with a dictaphone in the middle of the practice room?

Vesku : I dont understand anything about recording so i dont really care if there is pro tools or fucking gramofon. Everything goes for me. Main point is, that it sounds good.


MF : Where do three finnish punk rockers spend there saturday night & sunday morning?

Vesku : I cant remember. Somewhere between earth and sky. Sometimes.


MF : I think all of you must be very busy with your other projects ? But do you think that one day we will see some Kylähullut shows ? It must be very funny and crazy on live stage. We want to see you !

Vesku : Maybe one day. No promises. Yes, we are busy, but we love doing Kylähullut, so nothing is impossible.


MF : To finnish, do you have a word for the French readers ?

Vesku : Haistakaa etanansyöjät vittu!
